The club is located in the southern part of Wyrrabalong National Park on the NSW central coastline. Situated on a narrow strip of land between Lake Tuggerah and the Pacific Ocean, the fairway was first opened for golf in 2006, but Magenta Shores was soon recognised as one of the country's top courses, as evidenced by its current high ranking on the Australian Golf Courses List Hole 1 to 7 were actually built on land previously used as a rubbish dump, so a considerable amount of land was moved during construction. Holes 1 to 7 were actually built on land that had previously been used as a landfill, so a considerable amount of sandy soil was moved during construction to cover that portion of the site, resulting in an increase in fairway elevation of more than 20 feet.
The course features a number of large and intimidating fairways and greenside bunkers and is divided into two nines. The outer hemisphere heads south from the clubhouse back to the toughest hole of the round, the 479-yard, par-4 9th. The challenge on the back nine continues until the iconic 15th hole, a 135-yard par 3 with a bunker-strewn green. The return to the finish line then begins, culminating in the long par 5 next to the clubhouse.
