Built on a piece of unique wetland along the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the designers of Sun Island in Yangzhou paid particular attention to retaining much of the pristine beauty of the land, from the virgin habitat of migrating birds to the picturesque water lily and lotus expanses flourishing in fresh water ponds. These serve as water hazards as well for this golf course. Golfing here is undoubtedly a rare low carbon treat. Sun Island Yangzhou's uniqueness is in its full sensitivity to its surrounding environment. These natural constraints have been masterfully overcome by the principal course designer Nelson and Haworth, turning the course into a beautiful but challenging experience. It offers a fair share of exceptional golfing challenges, which include a couple of narrow fairways, numerous signature ponds and bunkers, and, of course, cunningly superimposed fast greens.
